Rev. Joel Webbon Advocates for Old Testament Execution of Women Who "Lie" About Sexual Assault
REV. JOEL WEBBON OF COVENANT BIBLE CHURCH in Austin, TX, recently called for the execution of women who "lie" about sexual assault—citing Deuteronomy 19:16-21 as his text.
“Hashtag Me Too would end real fast," he said. "All you have to do is publicly execute a few women who have lied.”
Conservative evangelical Christianity seems to be falling prey to a rising movement that has forgotten the Gospel of Jesus.

Church leaders: Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?
Jesus: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM THREATENS US ALL. No longer a far-right ideology, we'd do well to take a closer look at this doctrine of divine right: Of white men to rule non believers and believers alike under Old and New Testment law. Already, numerous high-ranking politicals figures espouse theocracy over democracy, including Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House.
A 2024 congressional report highlights the views of Mike Johnson. "Johnson’s public record on the religious freedom of other Americans raises troubling questions," the report reads. "He has spent decades working to deny, reject, and undermine the constitutional separation of church and state, including trafficking in fake histories about our nation’s founding..." (1) Congressman Jared Huffman, adds that Christian nationalists, including Johnson, “are zeroed in on defeating democracy. Violence is a feature, not a bug, of this movement and we need to take it very, very seriously...
"I really want to underscore the violence [associated with Christian nationalism]. No one should confuse the Christian nationalist movement…as just a bunch of people of faith that want to practice their faith. It is the opposite of that. These are people who want power and control over others. They want to take over our government. They want to eliminate the separation of church and state and impose a biblically sanctioned theocracy. [emphasis mine] (2)
Amanda Tyler, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty (BJC), says the "single biggest threat to religious freedom in the United States today is Christian nationalism. Christian nationalism," she says, "is antithetical to the constitutional ideal that belonging in American society is not predicated on what faith one practices or whether someone is religious at all."(3)
Project 2025 is the blueprint for their cause.
So why should we be concerned?
Take a listen to Rev. Joel Weddon. It'll stop your breath. (click here).
Or, read what he said. Below, I quote him verbatim.
Webbon: In Israel, and this should be the law of land in our country and every country still to this day. This is a timeless principle, a timeless universal truth. If you perjure yourself by bearing false witness, accusing somebody else, whatever would have been for that person, had they been found guilty, then that penalty should fall on your head for falsely accusing them. So if you accuse in a court of law, falsely accuse someone of murder, and if it turns out in the final analysis that that person is not guilty of murder, and neither are you, but you’ve falsely accused them of murder and the penalty for murder should be capital punishment, life for a life, then you, even though you have not committed murder, because you have falsely accused someone else for murder, and the penalty for that crime would be death, you should be put to death.
“That’s what the text is saying. And if that were to occur, and the just penalties were to be enforced, you the false accuser is now put to death and that’s a public death, it’s a public sentence, publicly carried out. Then the citizens of these United States of America, you know what they would do?
“Hashtag “Me Too” would end real fast… All you have to do is publicly execute a few women who have lied.”
In this movement, there is no room for Jesus. So why the rise in Christian Nationalism? When the only law Christians are asked to obey is that of loving God and our neighbor likewise?
