I am honored to be included in Spring and All, a 2023 anthology of Pacific NW writers. Being me, I of course had to write a Christmas story—though I do stick with the theme of new hope. To whet your appetite, here's the first paragraph of "Good Will, Glad Tidings." .
.YEARS AGO, my sister gave me two sets of four decorative napkin rings made of brass with large costume jewels for pizazz. In one set, the center oval “gem” was ruby, the other set, emerald. Surrounding these eye-catchers—cut into a dozen or more facets to catch light and sparkle—other plastic jewels danced like ring-around-the-rosy. Pearls. Cubic zirconia. Amber. Designed to deck out a Christmas dinner table with all the fa-la of Yuletide. Very festive, very bright. Except for me they were a bit too gaudy to go with my Great-Aunt Vi’s century-old dining room suite, and so for years the napkin rings sat in the top drawer of her antique buffet. Each year I’d open the drawer to get some candles, see them in their corner, and debate with myself. Each year it was the same answer: No, not this Christmas... . I am joined by dozens of skilfull artists who write with humor, nostalgia, and insight. The back cover narrative nails it. "Spring and All offers readers a sense of awakening, sparking deeper understanding, renewed wonder, and refreshed reverence."
Enjoy!
